Aston Rowant is a distinctive and effective Church of England school. The Headteacher, staff and governors have a very clear vision of the school as an inclusive, vibrant Church of England school. The School’s ethos, strong sense of community, daily organisation and teaching are founded on Christian principles. These are exemplified by the Christian Values which are clearly understood in biblical terms and illustrated by parts of scripture.
The School works closely with St Peter and St Paul's Church in Aston Rowant and St Andrew's Church in Chinnor to ensure that each child is valued and reaches his or her potential through a creative and reflective curriculum, developing the 'whole child'.
Spiritual development is enhanced by the celebration of significant Christian festivals. These take place in the village church where the service is led by both clergy and children. The whole community is invited to attend these services. Through these services the children experience a community expression of faith.
The Open the Book Team lead collective worship at school once a week in which the core values are linked to Biblical teaching. These are delivered within the framework of the Christian year.
A range of opportunities are provided to enable the children to discover and explore their own spirituality. The school hosts annual “Prayer Spaces” to introduce the children to the ability to reflect and relate to everyday experiences.
A strong community spirit and supportive environment encourages self-confidence in the children allowing them to embrace risk as part of the learning process. Children readily contribute to class discussion safe in the knowledge that their opinions will be respected. The outdoor facilities provide a safe and exciting environment where children can develop physically, emotionally and spiritually. Use of the extensive outdoor areas for lessons and play provide regular opportunities for the children to experience awe and wonder at their environment.
