  • Peace Rose

Fri 30 Nov 2018 Mrs Roberts
Yesterday, Rev. Des blessed and helped us to plant our Peace Rose as an act of Remembrance for the 100 year Anniversary of the end of the First World War and all of those who have lost their lives in conflicts since. We decided to plant our rose near our willow dome as this is somewhere we can go to find peace in school. It is a white rambling rose which will hopefully grow and wind it's way through the willow. We will look after it and adore it's beauty.

    Aston Rowant achievements this term

We have been really busy since September with many achievements gained by the children and staff at school. These achievements make us all really proud of what we do at Aston Rowant. The children are continuing to make excellent progress across the school and are thoroughly engaged in our creative curriculum this term. We have had many celebrations since the start of the academic year some of which I would like to share with you.

    Sport at Aston Rowant

Our sports provision has had a complete revamp this term. We have been focussing on the individual needs of the children and adapting our curriculum to meet their sporting skills through a sport led approach. Many inspirational visitors to school have enriched our curriculum and inspired our children. These include Paul Sturgess, Britain’s tallest man and world’s tallest Basketball player, and Ben Thomas from Chinnor rugby club. Our links with wider community sports ventures are increasing as Ben has agreed to come to school and offer ‘reading and rugby’ sessions and a lunchtime rugby club for all. We have also signed up for the ‘Chance to Shine’ cricket initiative and the Sports Leadership Academy where children can learn to be sports leaders within our school. Our drive and passion to develop happy healthy children through sport continues.

    Primary Science Quality Mark

We are delighted to receive our new Primary Science Quality Mark. We have attended an awards ceremony in London and were awarded this by none other than Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocok, british space scientist and science educator. Dr Maggie has appeared on many CBBC programmes and is the presenter of ‘The Sky at Night’ with professor Brian Cox. We are thrilled to bits with this award which celebrates our excellent teaching and learning of Science.

    Music at Aston Rowant

It has been fantastic to see so many children inspired to take up a musical instrument this term. The children are enjoying their lessons with our music teacher and as part of our rock band, iRock. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to be creative, work as part of a group, have fun and learn something new. We are looking forward to the children putting on their own music concert next term to show their achievements.

If you would like to come and visit our school and see it in action please call our school office on 01844 351671 to arrange a visit.

We are have such a loud pupil voice at Aston Rowant!! Our pupils have such good ideas and want to make a difference to how our school is run. We organise a whole school - school council meeting every year where our children can discuss issues that matter to them. This week was Anti Bullying week and the children organised a pupil questionnaire to find out what they understand about bullying and we could do better.

  • Super hero day

Fri 02 Nov 2018 Mrs Roberts
What a wonderful day we have had today as superheroes! This has been in aid of the Heart Foundation which is our school council's chosen charity for the year. We have been talking about healthy lifestyles and discussing our real superheroes in the NHS, armed forces, police force and other occupations. The children have been talking about their super powers. One child said she was a growth mind-set super hero and her super power was the power of 'yet'! Fantastic!
  • iRock

Fri 02 Nov 2018 Mrs Roberts
What a wonderful opportunity to learn a musical instrument and what better way to start than being part of our very own rock band!
  • WW1 remembrance visit

Fri 02 Nov 2018 Mrs Roberts
We had a visit yesterday from WW1 soldiers and their horses! This was to mark the 100th year anniversary. The children loved asking questions and stroking the horses. Thank you so much to our visitors for doing this for us. I wonder if you can see who they are!
