f. PSHE and Relationships Education

Our PSHE and Relationships Education curriculum supports pupils to become confident, respectful and responsible individuals, prepared to make informed decisions and navigate life safely and positively. Learning is age‑appropriate, progressive and carefully planned to meet the needs of pupils at different stages of development.

Through PSHE, pupils develop knowledge and skills related to:

  • Healthy lifestyles and self‑care
  • Relationships and friendships, including kindness, respect and cooperation
  • Respect, tolerance and diversity, with a strong emphasis on inclusion
  • Personal safety, risk awareness and decision‑making

The curriculum is enhanced by visitors and real‑life experiences, which help pupils to apply learning meaningfully and gain confidence in real‑world contexts.

Life Skills, Safety and Financial Education

As part of our PSHE provision, pupils are taught important life skills that support independence and future readiness.

  • Pupils learn about money management, budgeting and financial responsibility, and the school holds the HSBC Financial Award, reinforcing understanding of managing money safely and sensibly.
  • Key Stage 2 pupils receive Basic First Aid training, delivered by a qualified instructor, helping them to understand how to respond calmly and responsibly in emergencies.

Safety education is a priority across the school and is supported through high‑quality external input, including:

  • Visits from paramedics and fire officers, helping pupils understand emergency services and how they keep people safe
  • Regular visits from the school PCSO and delivery of the PC Ben programme in Key Stage 1, helping younger pupils learn about personal safety and trusted adults
  • Canal safety talks delivered by the Canal Society
  • Drowning awareness sessions led by a qualified instructor, ensuring pupils understand water safety and risk management

These experiences help pupils to recognise danger, understand consequences and know how and when to seek help.
