e. Targeted and Universal Wellbeing Support

We have a dedicated Wellbeing Lead who supports both pupils and staff, ensuring that wellbeing is prioritised across the school community. The Wellbeing Lead runs a Wellbeing Club each Wednesday lunchtime, providing a safe and supportive space where pupils can relax, talk and engage in activities that promote emotional regulation and positive self‑esteem.

In addition, we work with a qualified Play Therapist, who provides 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils who may benefit from more targeted intervention. This support helps children to process emotions, build resilience and develop strategies to manage challenges they may be experiencing.

Emotional Literacy and Regulation

We use the Zones of Regulation approach across the school to help pupils develop emotional awareness and self‑regulation skills. Children learn to identify how they are feeling, understand that all emotions are valid, and practise strategies to help them regulate their emotions in a positive way.

This shared language supports consistency and helps children to talk confidently about their feelings with both peers and adults.

Relationships, Belonging and Peer Support

Strong relationships are central to wellbeing. We promote this through a range of structured opportunities, including:

  • School Buddies, who support younger pupils and help them settle into school life
  • Playground Leaders, who encourage inclusive play, cooperation and positive social interaction
  • Vertical learning opportunities, such as inter‑house days, where pupils work collaboratively across year groups

These opportunities help pupils to feel a strong sense of belonging and develop empathy, responsibility and confidence.

Space Makers and Stilling

As part of our Space Makers provision, pupils engage in calming activities designed to support mindfulness and reflection. One example is stilling, which often involves sensory experiences using water and dirt.

Activities like these encourage children to slow down, focus their attention and engage their senses, supporting emotional regulation and calmness. Stilling provides pupils with practical tools to manage stress and emotions and supports mental wellbeing in a gentle and accessible way.
