d. Our Commitment to Inclusion, Wellbeing & Pastoral Support

At Aston Rowant, we believe that every pupil belongs and has an important contribution to make. We help children understand inclusion through the image of a 100‑piece jigsaw, where every child is a unique and essential piece of the bigger picture. Each piece is different, valued and necessary to create the whole. Pupils will see this symbol represented across the school as a reminder that everyone matters and everyone belongs.

Our SEND and pastoral provision supports pupils’ emotional development, wellbeing and resilience, alongside their academic learning. We recognise that pupils learn best when they feel safe, understood and confident. As part of our statutory SEND responsibilities, we clearly outline the emotional and social support available to pupils, ensuring that help is accessible, timely and responsive to need.

We provide a range of pastoral and wellbeing support, including:

  • Everyday classroom practices that promote emotional safety and positive relationships
  • Access to small‑group wellbeing support when needed
  • Opportunities for pupils to develop emotional literacy and self‑regulation

We provide a range of pastoral and wellbeing support, including everyday classroom practices that promote emotional safety, access to small‑group wellbeing support when needed, and opportunities for pupils to develop emotional literacy and self‑regulation with trusted adults.

All of our teachers are trained in Structured Conversations, enabling them to work effectively and collaboratively with parents and pupils. These meetings support shared understanding, clear planning and purposeful review, and are held termly or as required, ensuring that families are actively involved in decisions about support, progress and next steps.

We have a designated Wellbeing Lead, Mrs Boddy, who runs a Wellbeing Club every Wednesday. Through a range of carefully planned activities - such as mindfulness, breathing exercises, yoga, creative and reflective activities - pupils are supported to develop practical strategies for managing emotions, building resilience and maintaining positive wellbeing.

We also work with a trained Play Therapist, a former teacher, who works with pupils every Wednesday to provide one‑to‑one and small‑group play‑based support. This provision helps pupils to explore feelings, build self‑understanding and strengthen emotional skills in a safe, nurturing environment, supporting readiness to learn and positive engagement in school life.

We refer to Wednesdays as “Wellbeing Wednesday” – not because wellbeing is a one‑day focus, but as a visible reminder across the school community to pause, reflect and check in with ourselves and others. Wellbeing is woven into everyday school life, relationships and routines; Wellbeing Wednesday simply reinforces our shared responsibility to notice and care for our own emotional health and that of those around us.

Where additional expertise is helpful, we work with a range of external agencies, including educational psychologists, health professionals and behaviour and wellbeing specialists. Families are fully involved at every stage, working in partnership with the school to ensure support reflects each child’s needs, strengths and circumstances.

Through this inclusive, relational approach, we ensure that pupils feel valued, supported and confident - enabling them to flourish academically, socially and emotionally as part of a caring school community.
