1. Outdoor Learning

At Aston Rowant, our extensive grounds and exceptional natural environment play a central role in our curriculum and our Christian vision. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, our pupils learn in an environment that inspires Wonder, builds Resilience, promotes Gratitude, and nurtures Harmony with the natural world.

Every Friday, the whole school takes part in Forest Friday - our unique version of Forest School where every child and every adult learns outdoors. Activities include:

  • outdoor art
  • gardening
  • growing fruit and vegetables in our allotment
  • nature study
  • den building
  • bug hunting
  • tool use (age appropriate)
  • fire circle safety and campfire experiences
  • teamwork and problem solving
  • environmental care and conservation
  • mindfulness in nature

These experiences develop curiosity, character, wellbeing and confidence.

We are proud to hold both the Eco Schools Award and the Woodland Trust Green Tree School Award, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability, ecological responsibility and environmental stewardship.

Our school grounds include:

  • a purpose-built wooden outdoor learning shelter
  • a peace garden tended by the children
  • a mini orchard
  • willow circle
  • raised beds and allotment spaces
  • wild areas for biodiversity
  • extensive field and woodland edges

Every child is an Eco Warrior - with Eco Warrior representatives in each year group - and our weekly Eco Warrior Challenges encourage the whole school community to make positive changes.

Outdoor Learning & Eco Education at Aston Rowant supports wellbeing, personal development, spiritual growth, and a deep connection to God’s creation.
