i. Parent FAQ: Faith, Worship, and Inclusion

Do families have to be Christian to attend the school?

No. Aston Rowant School warmly welcomes families of all faiths and none. You do not need to be Christian to apply, attend, or feel fully included in our school community.

Will my child be expected to become a Christian?

No. Children are never expected or required to adopt the Christian faith. Our role is to educate, not convert.

Children are encouraged to explore ideas, ask questions, and develop their own understanding of beliefs and values in a respectful and thoughtful way.

What is Collective Worship?

Collective Worship is a daily time when the school comes together for stillness, reflection, stories, songs, and prayer.  It is:

  • Distinctively Christian in content
  • Inclusive and invitational in approach

Children can join in at a level that feels right for them.

What about prayer — will my child have to pray?

Prayer is part of school life, but participation is always invitational. Children are encouraged to be reflective and respectful, whether they pray, listen quietly, or reflect in their own way.

What is taught in Religious Education (RE)?

RE at Aston Rowant is inclusive and academically rigorous.  Children:

  • Learn about Christianity and other faiths and worldviews
  • Develop understanding of how beliefs influence people’s lives
  • Are encouraged to reflect on their own ideas, beliefs, and values

RE supports respect, curiosity, and understanding, not judgment.

How does the school support inclusion?

Inclusion is central to who we are. We work hard to ensure that:

  • Every child feels safe, known, and valued
  • Support is tailored to individual needs
  • Differences are respected and celebrated

Safeguarding, wellbeing, and belonging are priorities in everything we do.

How are British Values promoted?

British Values are taught and lived through:

  • The curriculum
  • PSHE and RE
  • Leadership opportunities
  • Daily school life and relationships

Our Christian values strongly support democracy, respect, tolerance, and responsibility.

Can parents withdraw their child from worship or RE?

Yes. Parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from Collective Worship or RE. We encourage families to talk to us if they have questions or concerns - open conversation is always welcomed.

Who can I talk to if I have questions?

We encourage parents to speak to:

  • Class teachers
  • The Headteacher
  • The school office

We value partnership with families and are always happy to answer questions. Please view our contact page here.
