e. Faith in Action

At Aston Rowant School, our Christian faith is lived out through action. Our values do not remain on the page -they shape decisions, inspire service, and empower children to use their voices for good. We believe that faith calls us to act justly, love compassionately, and live courageously.

Our hope is to GROW children who have the courage to speak up, stand alongside others, and make a positive difference in the world.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8–9)

Justice and Courageous Advocacy

Courageous advocacy is a defining feature of life at Aston Rowant School. Pupils are supported to explore injustice, reflect deeply, and respond thoughtfully and responsibly, rooted in our Christian values.

Through our GROWTH values, children learn to:

  • Gratitude
Show appreciation for creation and understand the responsibility to sustain it
(Eco Warriors, Green Day, COP26 work, eco‑uniform initiatives)

  • Resilience
Persevere when championing ideas and seeking change
    (Little People, Big Dreams projects)

  • Outreach
Build strong links with local, national, and global communities

  • Wonder
Develop wisdom and a sense of awe, asking big questions about the world

  • Trust
Understand Christian faith in Jesus, including mercy, justice, and compassion

  • Harmony
Respect and value others, practise forgiveness, and foster peaceful relationships locally and globally

Charity, Service, and Outreach

Outreach is one of our core values and is lived out through regular, meaningful charitable action.

Each year, the school supports five regular charities, including:

  • Jeans for Genes
  • Sharing Life Foodbank
  • Children in Need
  • The Royal British Legion
  • Red Nose Day

In addition, pupils choose one major annual charity, ensuring children have ownership, understanding, and voice in their acts of service.

We are also proud to be part of Connecting Classrooms, working on the Zero Hunger Project with Maqoma School in South Africa, strengthening pupils’ understanding of global justice, partnership, and solidarity.

Courageous Advocacy Across the School

Every class undertakes a Courageous Advocacy project, enabling pupils of all ages to explore issues they care about and take informed, meaningful action:

  • Owl Class – Human Rights of a Child in Palestine
  • Fox Class – Traffic Management and community safety
  • Squirrel Class – Supporting Sharing Life Foodbank
  • Hedgehog Class – Turn It Off (energy awareness and responsibility)

These projects are carefully supported to be age‑appropriate, reflective, and rooted in values.

Advocacy Through the Curriculum

Courageous advocacy is naturally embedded across subjects. For example:

  • Fox Class wrote to the Prime Minister about climate change as part of an English project, combining persuasive writing with real‑world action.

Pupil‑Led Initiatives

We are proud of the independent advocacy and charitable projects initiated by our pupils, including support for:

  • Sobell House
  • Max’s Muncher
  • Wycombe Homeless Connection

These projects demonstrate children’s growing confidence, empathy, and commitment to living out their values beyond school‑led activities.

Making Voices Heard

In July 2025, local MP Freddy van Mierlo visited Owl Class and reflected on the impact of pupils’ advocacy work:

“I was deeply moved by how eloquently and passionately they spoke about their campaign… expressing their values of gratitude, resilience, outreach, wonder, trust and harmony - not merely as words, but as principles they live by with genuine intention and purpose.”

In Autumn Term 2025, six pupils from Aston Rowant School will visit the Houses of Parliament to deliver their work and petition - a powerful example of pupils understanding the impact and responsibility of their voices.

Big Ideas, Small School

Our Little People, Big Dreams ethos reflects our belief that: It may be a small school, but everyone here has big ideas. Everyone here has big ideas. The school’s strapline of ‘growing together’ encourages pupils to do this (Ofsted 2022)

Projects include:

  • COP26 poster campaigns
  • The OxTrail project
  • Hearts for Homes during lockdown

These experiences help pupils understand that their actions - however small - can contribute to meaningful change.

Impact of Faith in Action

Through courageous advocacy, charitable giving, and service, pupils at Aston Rowant School:

  • Understand injustice and respond compassionately
  • Take responsibility seriously
  • Develop confidence in using their voice
  • Live out Christian values with intention and authenticity

As noted by external advisers:

“Plentiful examples of courageous advocacy are evident so that pupils can explore the power of their own voices. They take their responsibilities seriously. A wealth of experiences to learn from charitable giving are harnessed.”
Toby Long, Deputy Director, ODBE

Faith in action at Aston Rowant School ensures that children grow not only in knowledge, but in character, courage, compassion, and hope, living out our Christian vision in practical and meaningful ways.
