e. What Progress Looks Like

Progress in RE is visible not just in books, but in pupils’ confidence, maturity and depth of understanding.

Pupils demonstrate:

🧠 Growing Religious Literacy

They use accurate vocabulary, explain key concepts and make connections between texts, beliefs and practices.

🗣️ Clear Articulation of Ideas

Pupils express themselves confidently — orally and in writing — and can explain their thinking with clarity.

🤝 Respect for Diversity

Pupils recognise, value and respect differences in belief, showing empathy and understanding.

✝️ Understanding of Theology

They demonstrate knowledge of biblical texts, Christian teachings, theological concepts and their significance.

⚖️ Ability to Make Links Between Belief and Action

Pupils understand how faith influences behaviour, values, decisions and social justice — a key SIAMS emphasis.

🌱 Personal Reflection

They show thoughtful insight, engage with big questions, and explore their own beliefs and experiences sensitively.

How We Know Progress Is Strong

Progress is tracked and evidenced through:

  • Teacher assessments each lesson and each unit
  • Deep dives and book looks showing strong progression
  • Pupil voice, evidencing recall, understanding and personal growth
  • Governor monitoring, ensuring accountability and challenge
  • Moderation across classes to ensure consistency

Pupils at Aston Rowant show excellent recall, a secure grasp of Christian theology, and the ability to reflect deeply - strengths externally recognised by diocesan leaders and evident across our RE evidence base.

In Summary

Progress in RE at Aston Rowant is:

  • Systematic and carefully monitored
  • Holistic — covering knowledge, understanding, reflection and articulation
  • Evident in outcomes, conversations, behaviour and attitudes
  • Deepened over time through excellent curriculum design
  • Strong enough to withstand scrutiny at inspection level

Our children grow into reflective, compassionate, articulate learners who can engage confidently with big questions about faith, meaning and life - a clear sign of flourishing in line with our Christian vision.
