d. Eco School Award

We are proud to be recognised as an Eco School, an internationally respected award celebrating our longterm commitment to sustainability, environmental education and pupil leadership. This award reflects years of hard work by our staff, pupils and wider community, and demonstrates that caring for God’s creation sits at the heart of our school culture.

Becoming an Eco School is not just about earning a badge — it is about embedding sustainability into everyday school life. Our Eco Warriors, staff team and wider pupil body work together to ensure that environmental responsibility is woven into our curriculum, routines and ethos.

๐ŸŒ Our Eco School Work

๐Ÿ’ก Wholeschool participation in energy saving

All classes take part in energy saving practices. Eco Warriors carry out weekly “Switch Off” checks, reminding us to:

  • Turn off lights when leaving the room
  • Close doors to conserve heat
  • Unplug screens and devices at the end of the day
  • Reduce unnecessary printing

These small actions develop good habits and help pupils understand the impact of their choices on the environment.

๐Ÿž Maintaining and improving wildlife habitats

Our school grounds include wildlife zones, bug hotels, longgrass areas, wildflower patches and log piles. Pupils help maintain these spaces by:

  • Planting pollinator friendly flowers
  • Creating habitats for insects and small mammals
  • Monitoring seasonal changes
  • Recording biodiversity as part of science learning

These habitats help pupils observe nature firsthand and develop a sense of stewardship.

๐Ÿšฏ Litter free campaigns

Eco Warriors lead regular litter picking sessions and promote our “Litter Free Lunches” initiative. They encourage pupils to:

  • Use reusable containers
  • Reduce packaging
  • Take food waste home for composting
  • Keep the playground and field tidy

This encourages pride in our school grounds and reinforces a community mindset.

๐Ÿšถ Transport awareness & Walk to School focus

We encourage families to travel sustainably where possible. Eco Warriors monitor how many pupils walk, scoot or cycle, and promote national events such as Walk to School Week. This helps reduce traffic, improve air quality and boost children’s physical health.

๐Ÿงช Curriculum links with PSHE, Science and Geography

Our environmental work is interwoven into the curriculum, giving pupils opportunities to:

  • Learn about climate change, habitats and sustainability in science
  • Explore global citizenship in PSHE
  • Investigate the planet, ecosystems and human impact in geography

Forest Fridays and outdoor learning naturally deepen this understanding.

๐Ÿ“‹ Regular pupilled environmental audits

Eco Warriors conduct audits throughout the year, checking:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Waste and recycling
  • Litter levels
  • Use of outdoor spaces
  • Wildlife presence

Their findings help shape future action plans, giving them real influence in school improvement.

๐ŸŒฑ A Way of Life

Our Eco School status reflects something special:
Environmental education here is not a project - it is a way of life.

It influences how we use space, how we teach, how pupils lead, and how we live out our GROWTH values daily.
