Wellbeing

At Aston Rowant CofE Primary School, wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that children thrive when they feel safe, valued, and emotionally supported, and that a strong sense of wellbeing enables all pupils to learn, grow and flourish.

Our approach is rooted in our Christian vision of helping every child to live life “in all its fullness”, and reflects our commitment to inclusion, nurture and high expectations for all.

We recognise that wellbeing is essential for:

  • Positive behaviour and attitudes
  • Emotional regulation and resilience
  • Healthy relationships
  • Academic success
  • A strong sense of belonging and self-worth

We take a proactive, whole-school approach that values every child as an individual, offering care, consistency, and high-quality support so that all pupils can flourish.

Our Wellbeing Vision

We aim to create a school community where:

  • Every child feels safe, seen and supported
  • Relationships are built on trust, kindness and respect
  • Children are encouraged to be curious, confident and resilient
  • Emotional literacy and regulation are taught, modelled and celebrated
  • Diversity and individuality are valued
  • Families feel included, welcomed and part of the journey

Wellbeing is not a separate initiative - it runs through every aspect of our school culture.

How We Support Wellbeing

We promote wellbeing through a values-led approach shaped around:

Gratitude • Resilience • Harmony • Trust • Outreach • Wonder

Throughout our school day, children experience:

  • Daily check-ins and strong relationships with trusted adults
  • Calm, structured routines that help them feel secure
  • Mindfulness, reflection and sensory regulation as part of classroom practice
  • Opportunities for creativity, play and emotional expression
  • Restorative conversations to support conflict resolution
  • Positive behaviour systems that emphasise praise, reflection and growth
  • Early Help and family support when difficulties arise

Our curriculum also encourages children to understand and manage emotions, build friendships, collaborate, problem-solve and take pride in themselves and others.

Working Together With Families

We believe that wellbeing is strongest when school and home work in partnership. We communicate regularly with families, offer support when challenges arise, and involve parents actively in wellbeing plans, early intervention and wider support networks.

When needed, we work alongside:

  • School Nursing Team
  • MHST and mental health professionals
  • SEND services
  • Educational Psychology
  • Early Help and family support agencies
  • Community partners

Together, we ensure every child receives the right help at the right time.

Our Commitment

At Aston Rowant, we are committed to:

  • Knowing every child as an individual
  • Creating a calm, safe and nurturing environment
  • Embedding wellbeing into the curriculum and daily life
  • Helping pupils develop the skills they need to flourish emotionally and socially
  • Supporting families with compassion, openness and respect
  • Building a community where everyone feels they belong

Wellbeing is the foundation for learning, behaviour, resilience and joy - and we are proud to make it central to our school identity.
