Headteacher's Welcome
Dear Visitor,
A very warm welcome to Aston Rowant Church of England Primary School. Whether you are a prospective parent, a friend of the school, or simply exploring who we are, we are delighted that you are here.
From the moment you step through our gate, you will feel something special - a sense of belonging, joy and genuine care that so many visitors comment on. Ours is a school where every child, every family and every visitor is known, noticed and valued.
At Aston Rowant, we take great pride in creating a warm, welcoming, friendly and supportive environment for all. Our whole school community works together to ensure that children feel safe, loved, encouraged and inspired every single day. Our theologically rooted Christian vision, centred on how we “Grow Together”, shapes not only what we do but who we are - it guides our teaching, our relationships and the heartbeat of our school.
Our strong relationship with the church enriches daily life and deepens children’s learning. This partnership is cherished by pupils, staff, families and our wider community, and it is one of the reasons why our school feels like an extended family.
A School That Believes in Every Child
We are incredibly proud of our Ofsted feedback, which captures the very essence of Aston Rowant. Inspectors noted that: “Every child at Aston Rowant is known and believed in.”
This affirmation echoes exactly who we are. Our staff know each child deeply - their strengths, their struggles, their passions and their potential. We delight in who they are and lovingly challenge them to become the very best versions of themselves.
Ofsted also praised:
- our nurturing ethos
- our belief in the children we serve
- our “aspirational curriculum”
- the fact that we place “no limits” on what children can achieve
- the impressive way they behave and conduct themselves
- and described us as “a small school with big ideas.”
These comments reflect the daily reality of school life: high ambition wrapped in belief, nurture and joy.
A Curriculum That Celebrates Every Child’s Journey
Our curriculum is intentionally individual and personalised because every child’s learning journey is unique. We involve children in planning, giving them a voice and sense of ownership over their learning. Through rich, rewarding and carefully structured experiences, pupils make meaningful progress and develop a genuine love of learning.
We continually seek out new, exciting and innovative opportunities, especially through active and outdoor learning - something we are uniquely blessed to be able to do in our beautiful surroundings.
A Community That Grows Together
We believe that the highest standards of behaviour are achieved not through compliance, but through kindness, dignity, reflection and mutual respect. Our supportive environment helps children:
- build confidence and self-esteem
- explore viewpoints thoughtfully
- disagree well
- forgive generously
- and cherish themselves and one another in their relationships
These are qualities our pupils model every day.
We also provide rich opportunities for children to broaden their social skills, both within school and across the wider world. Our global links encourage pupils to ask big questions, think deeply and see themselves as part of a global story.
Children at Aston Rowant are also wonderfully proactive in their charitable work, often taking the lead themselves. Leadership opportunities are woven throughout school life, enabling pupils to play an active role in shaping our community.
A Place Filled With Warmth, Joy, Curiosity and Purpose
As Headteacher, what fills me with the greatest pride is the atmosphere you feel the moment you walk in: a school alive with care, laughter, exploration, challenge and love. It is hard to capture here, but if you step through our doors you will experience it for yourself.
I hope you enjoy exploring our website, and I warmly encourage you to come and experience Aston Rowant in person. You will be met with an open, sincere welcome and a sense of community and inclusion that we hope will stay with you long after your visit.
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about us.
Kind regards,
Mrs Helen France
Headteacher
