Enrichment Weeks/Events
Throughout the year we run Enrichment Weeks for: History; RE; Art, Sport; Music; Science and Mental Health with Enrichment Days for Reading and Maths. These school enrichment opportunities are extra-curricular activities that go beyond the standard curriculum to enhance children’s learning and development.
These activities aim to broaden our children’s horizons, foster their interests, and develop essential life skills. Enrichment activities are key to help our children develop teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, alongside academic knowledge. They allow the children to discover talents and passions they might not otherwise encounter, potentially leading to future hobbies or career paths.
Furthermore, our enrichment activities can provide a positive outlet for creativity, self-expression, and social interaction. Participating in new and challenging activities can boost students' self-esteem and ability to cope with setbacks. Enrichment activities can provide a positive outlet for creativity, self-expression, and social interaction.

Annual Enrichment Events:
Be Bright Be Seen Day
If you are a motorist then you will know how difficult it is to sometimes see pedestrians wearing dark clothes at night or when visibility is poor. Last year, most road related accidents for children happened between 7-9am or 3-5pm on a weekday - the exact times pupils travel back and forth to school. The clocks will change during half-term and the nights are growing darker earlier, we want to raise awareness of this issue with the children. On Thursday 24th October we will be having a ‘Be Bright Be Seen Day’, raising awareness of the importance of being safe on the streets. We will be asking children to come to school NOT in uniform but dressed in bright clothes. We will be reminding them how important it is to wear bright clothes and fluorescent strips so that drivers can see them more easily.
Bird Watch, Chess lessons and Cycle proficiency
The wonderful Mr and Mrs Turton (local retired teachers of Aston Rowant) bring fullness of life to school by leading several events and clubs:
Our annual school bird watch as part of The National Big Bird Watch. In February 2025 we saw 14 different types of bird including wrens, rooks, longtail tits, goldfinches, chaffinches, blue tits, robins, redwings and jackdaws.
Year 5 take part in Cycle proficiency every summer term with Mr & Mrs Turton with the support of parent volunteers.
Chess lessons are held for all students in Fox Class every week with a lunchtime Chess Club open to all Fox and Owl students.
October is Black History Month – a time to celebrate and remember the achievements and contributions of people of African and Caribbean heritage to the British economy, culture, and history. It's a chance to tell the stories of those lesser well-known Black Britons who we might not know if we don't showcase them. Autumn term 2025, we explored Black Britons who worked in the: YR – Medical Services
Y1/2 – Police Force
Y3/4 – Armed Forces
Y5/6 – and asking ‘Who should be featured on the £10 note?
