English

At Aston Rowant, English is at the heart of our curriculum. Through rich reading experiences, purposeful writing and confident communication, we help every child become a fluent reader, expressive writer and articulate speaker. Rooted in our Christian vision of Growing Together, English empowers our children to become thoughtful, creative, courageous learners who value stories, understand the world, and use their voices with confidence.

We want every child to see themselves as a reader and a writer.

From the very beginning of their time with us, children are immersed in high-quality texts that build vocabulary, ignite imagination and deepen knowledge. Story time, book talk, drama, poetry, performance and real writing purposes ensure English feels joyful, meaningful and alive.

Our thriving reading community is strengthened through whole-school events such as World Book Day, where children read, create, dress up, explore poetry, design characters, build story maps and take part in mixed-age workshops.

Pupil voice shows the impact:

“This is my favourite day of the whole year!”

“We made poems in so many different ways!”

“I love books even more now.”

Children at Aston Rowant grow as readers and writers through a culture of wonder, resilience, trust, and creativity, learning to communicate effectively and appreciate the power of language.
