1. Intent, Implementation & Impact

Intent

To deliver a consistent, high-quality PSHE curriculum that is knowledge-rich, skills-based and fully aligned with the statutory RSHE guidance. Kapow provides a spiral curriculum, revisiting key concepts each year so that children deepen understanding over time.

Implementation

Kapow provides:

  • A fully sequenced progression of knowledge and skills
  • Age-appropriate units on families, relationships, safety, health, citizenship and economic wellbeing
  • High-quality resources, films, discussion activities and scenarios
  • Strong RSHE coverage woven through carefully mapped units

Teachers supplement Kapow with school-specific PSHE including:

  • Christian values teaching
  • Online safety lessons
  • First aid
  • Road, rail and water safety
  • Parliament Week
  • Courageous Advocacy Weeks
  • Mental health initiatives
Impact

Through our sequenced Kapow PSHE curriculum, pupils develop a secure, cumulative body of knowledge that they can apply confidently in real-life situations. They demonstrate:

  • Clear recall of age-appropriate content, revisited and strengthened each year through the spiral model.
  • Emotional literacy, able to name, understand and manage a wide range of feelings.
  • Healthy personal relationships, characterised by respect, empathy and positive boundaries.
  • Improved oracy and reasoning, as PSHE discussions encourage children to articulate viewpoints, challenge respectfully and listen actively.
  • Excellent safeguarding awareness, evidenced through their ability to describe how to stay safe in different contexts.
  • Growing independence, as they reflect on their own behaviour, choices and wellbeing.
  • Deep connection to our Christian vision, showing Gratitude, Outreach, Harmony and Trust in interactions with others.
