f. Curriculum Information (Including How Disabled Pupils Are Included)

At Aston Rowant, we provide a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning in all pupils. Our curriculum is rooted in our Christian vision and GROWTH values, and offers rich opportunities for academic, social, emotional and spiritual development. We are fully committed to ensuring that pupils with SEND — including those with disabilities — can access, enjoy and succeed across every aspect of school life.

An Inclusive Curriculum for All

Our curriculum is designed so that all pupils study the same core curriculum, with teaching adapted where needed to ensure accessibility and success. Inclusion is not an add‑on; it is embedded within classroom practice, enrichment opportunities and the wider life of the school.

Teachers adapt teaching to ensure pupils with SEND can access the curriculum through thoughtful planning, clear routines, appropriate scaffolding and targeted support. Where additional provision is required, this is carefully planned so that pupils remain connected to class learning and the wider school community.

Enrichment, Culture and Opportunity

We place strong emphasis on enrichment as part of curriculum design, recognising that pupils have different strengths, interests and ways of shining. A wide range of clubs, sporting opportunities, creative experiences and leadership roles ensure that every child can find areas where they feel valued and successful.

The impact of this inclusive culture can be seen clearly in everyday school life. For example, during events such as cross‑country, pupils regularly display empathy and encouragement, with confident runners choosing to return and support peers who are finding the challenge harder - regardless of class, background or house team. This reflects a school culture where difference is accepted and success is shared.

Pupil Voice and Leadership

Our School Council exemplifies inclusive participation in action. Council representatives are elected democratically by their peers and, year on year, the council reflects a wide range of pupils with differing needs, backgrounds and strengths. This is not a targeted strategy but a natural outcome of a community where pupils value one another and do not perceive difference as a barrier to leadership. It demonstrates that inclusion is embedded within pupil attitudes as well as school structures.

Curriculum Impact for Pupils with SEND

Through inclusive curriculum design and enrichment:

  • Pupils with SEND participate fully alongside their peers
  • Confidence, independence and self‑belief are strengthened
  • Social understanding, empathy and collaboration are actively developed
  • Pupils feel a strong sense of belonging and identity within the school

We measure success not only through academic outcomes, but through pupils’ engagement, confidence, wellbeing and participation. These elements contribute directly to pupils’ readiness to learn and their ability to thrive within school and beyond.

At Aston Rowant, inclusion is visible in how pupils learn together, play together and lead together. Our curriculum ensures that every child, without exception, has the opportunity to grow, contribute and shine as a valued part of the school community.

Our Commitment

We want to ensure that disabled pupils can take part in the full curriculum, including academic subjects, enrichment, outdoor learning, worship, and extra‑curricular activities. Schools are required to explain what adaptations they make to the curriculum and environment to ensure learners with SEND are fully included, and what equipment or facilities are available to support them.

This may involve:

  • Providing accessible learning materials
  • Adjusting seating, layout or lighting
  • Offering assistive technology
  • Providing mobility or sensory equipment
  • Adapting PE activities to ensure full participation
  • Ensuring accessible educational visits and risk assessments reflecting individual needs

Our Accessibility Plan, published separately, sets out how we continually improve physical access, curriculum access and access to information for disabled pupils in line with statutory duties under the Equality Act 2010. See our SEND policies page here.
