e. Inclusion at Aston Rowant
At Aston Rowant School, inclusion is at the heart of who we are and how we live and learn together. We believe that every child and every adult belongs, is valued, and has something unique to contribute to our school community.
Over recent weeks, we have spent time as a whole school reflecting deeply on inclusion - what it means, why it matters, and what it looks like in our everyday life at Aston Rowant. These conversations have helped us move beyond definitions and policies, and towards lived experiences, relationships, and actions.
A School Where All Are Welcome
In our Collective Worship we have focused on the story All Are Welcome Here. This simple yet powerful book reminded us that schools are places of belonging - where difference is recognised, respected, and celebrated. The message resonated strongly with both children and adults, reinforcing our shared understanding that everyone deserves to feel safe, accepted, and valued for who they are.
Through Collective Worship and PSHE lessons, pupils have explored inclusion both theoretically and practically. We have talked about fairness, respect, and equality, but also about the small, everyday choices that make a big difference - the words we use, the way we treat one another, and how we show kindness and care.
Every Piece Matters
In one assembly, we shared the idea that Aston Rowant School is like a hundred‑piece jigsaw. Each piece is different in shape, colour, and pattern, yet every single one is essential to the overall picture. Some pieces may seem small or may take time to find where they fit, but without them, the picture would be incomplete.
In the same way, every child and adult in our school brings something unique to our community - even when they may not see it themselves. Inclusion means valuing every single piece and recognising that everyone belongs.
Inclusion in Action
To bring this idea to life, pupils worked with their buddies to create a large jigsaw display in the school hall, with individual pieces displayed around the school. On these pieces, they wrote about what inclusion looks like at Aston Rowant School. Their reflections are thoughtful, honest, and inspiring, and we encourage visitors to take time to read them.
A Daily Commitment
Inclusion at Aston Rowant is not a single lesson, theme, or event. It is a daily commitment, reflected in our actions, relationships, and decisions. We are proud of the way our children are learning to live this out - showing kindness, respect, empathy, and thoughtfulness in how they learn and play together.
By nurturing a culture of belonging, we aim to ensure that everyone in our school community feels seen, heard, and valued - today and every day.
