Our History Knowledge Organisers help pupils build a clear picture of the past while developing the language, structure and confidence to think like historians. 

At Aston Rowant School, History Knowledge Organisers are an integral part of our curriculum design. They support pupils in developing secure historical knowledge, a strong sense of chronology, and confidence in using subject‑specific vocabulary. 

Knowledge organisers make learning explicit and transparent, helping pupils understand what they are learning, how it connects to previous knowledge, and why it matters. They also support consistency across our mixed‑age classes and two‑year rolling programme. 

What Our History Knowledge Organisers Include 

Each history knowledge organiser is carefully designed to include three essential elements:

  • Subject‑specific terms relevant to the unit of study 
  • Vocabulary revisited and built upon across year groups 
  • Language pupils need to describe, explain and interpret the past 

Explicit vocabulary teaching supports oracy, reading comprehension and written historical explanation. 

📜 Essential Facts and Core Knowledge 

  • Key events, individuals and features of the historical period 
  • High‑priority facts pupils are expected to know and remember 
  • Clear links to the unit’s enquiry question
