b. Collective Worship
Collective Worship at Aston Rowant School
Collective Worship is a central, treasured part of life at Aston Rowant School. It brings our school community together in stillness, reflection, celebration, and prayer, and provides space to explore our Christian vision and values in ways that are meaningful, inclusive, and age‑appropriate.
Our Collective Worship is spiritually intentional and supports children and adults to reflect on faith, values, and how we live together as a community.
The Purpose of Collective Worship
Collective Worship at Aston Rowant aims to:
- Root school life in our Christian vision and values
- Provide opportunities for prayer, reflection, and stillness
- Explore Bible stories and teachings in accessible ways
- Encourage pupils to think deeply about themselves, others, and the wider world
- Inspire our community to live out our values in action
Worship is invitational rather than compulsory, allowing everyone to participate at a level appropriate to their own belief, understanding, and experience.

Values and the Christian Year
Our worship follows the liturgical calendar and is closely linked to both our Christian values and the Trinity across the year:
-
Autumn Term – God the Father
Wonder and Gratitude
-
Spring Term – God the Son
Trust and Outreach
-
Summer Term – God the Holy Spirit
Harmony and Resilience
Each half term focusses on one value, allowing time for deep understanding, reflection, and lived experience.
Scripture at the Heart of Worship
- A new Bible verse is introduced each week on Monday
- The verse is explored and revisited throughout all acts of Collective Worship
- It is also:
- Used in staff meetings
- Included in the weekly newsletter
- Linked to daily school life and learning
This consistent approach helps children grow familiar with scripture and see how it connects to their own lives.
Inclusivity and Pupil Involvement
Collective Worship at Aston Rowant is inclusive, invitational, and participatory.
- All pupils are encouraged to take an active role
- Children regularly:
- Lead prayers
- Share reflections
- Plan and deliver worship
- Worship supports children of all faiths and none, offering shared moments of reflection and moral development
Class worship, in particular, provides opportunities for children to explore spirituality in ways that are personal, creative, and meaningful.
Links with the Church and Clergy
We enjoy strong links with our local church and clergy, who:
- Regularly lead and support Collective Worship
- Join staff and governors in weekly prayer meetings
- Support the spiritual life of the school community
These relationships strengthen our identity as a Church school and support shared understanding between school, church, and families.
“Collective worship is spiritually intentional. It is iterative and inspires those present to act by demonstrating the well‑considered values. These are firmly rooted in Christian teaching. Class worship is excellent. Pupils lead various aspects of worship, and this has a profound impact on those present. Worship is wisely planned to follow the liturgical calendar and Christian values whilst being inclusive and invitational for all.”
