8. INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS Max’s Muncher - School Composter Project (Max, Year 4)

After noticing how much food waste the school produced, Max decided the school needed a composter.

What He Did

  • Completed a sponsored cycle
  • Took on odd jobs
  • Raised enough money single-handedly to buy a composter
  • Inspired peers to think differently about waste

Installed in Summer 2025, the composter:

  • Turns food scraps into nutrient-rich compost
  • Reduces landfill waste
  • Supports the school garden and raised beds
  • Strengthens the school’s Eco and sustainability work

Why This Matters

Max saw a problem: too much food waste. And instead of waiting for adults, he acted. He raised money through sponsored cycling and odd jobs, purchased a school composter, and helped the school take a major step in sustainability.

The composter:

  • Turns food waste into nutrient-rich compost
  • Reduces landfill use
  • Supports the school garden and raised beds
  • Helps the school meet Eco and Green Tree criteria
  • Teaches the community about circular economy principles

This is environmental advocacy that is practical, visionary and deeply aligned with your school’s Christian stewardship values. Max showed that one child, inspired by love of creation, can make an impact far beyond their years.
