6. INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS Sobell House Hospice Fundraising (Matilda, Evelyn & Zoe)

Three girls took it upon themselves to fundraise for Sobell House Hospice, which provides compassionate end-of-life care, family support, bereavement services and specialist medical care for people with life-limiting illness. One of the girls particularly wanted to say ‘Thank You’ to Sobell House for looking her dad so kindly and thoughtfully and for supporting her and her family at a difficult time.

What They Did

  • Created and sold bookmarks, bracelets and milkshakes
  • Ran a “name the bear” competition
  • Held their own stall at the Christmas Fayre with repurposed gifts
  • Raised £500

At a special visit during Collective Worship, Ariya Nair, the Relationships Fundraiser at Sobell House, shared the hospice’s work, received the cheque for £500 and presented the girls with a certificate and a Sobell House teddy bear.

Why This Matters

This extraordinary pupil-led initiative exemplifies courageous advocacy in its purest form: three children identifying a wanted to give back to an organisation, mobilising their gifts, and choosing to help those facing some of life’s hardest moments.

Sobell House provides compassionate end-of-life care, dignity, family support and love at the most vulnerable time. When the girls created bracelets, bookmarks, recycled gift items, milkshakes and competitions, they showed:

  • Gratitude
  • Entrepreneurial courage
  • Compassion for the suffering
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Service without being asked
  • A deep understanding of Christian love, thankfulness and outreach.

When Ariya from Sobell House visited to thank them personally, it affirmed that children’s actions can make a real difference to others - a powerful spiritual message for the whole school.
