2. Squirrel Class - Local Project: Sharing Life Food Bank (KS1)

Helping families in our local community

Inspired by the book A No Money Day and led by their own empathy, Squirrel Class reflected that hunger does not just happen at Harvest - “people can go hungry all year round.”

What They Did

  • Researched the work of Sharing Life and identified what items were needed most
  • Wrote to Mrs France to secure her support
  • Designed posters and information for all classes
  • Planned a donation station and parent calendar for ongoing contributions
  • Created a plan for parent volunteers to help deliver donations

Why This Matters

Squirrel Class demonstrated profound empathy, recognising that hunger is not seasonal but a year-round reality for families in their own community. Their desire to help reflects the Christian values of Gratitude, Outreach, and Compassion, all explicitly linked to your courageous advocacy framework. They weren’t told to help - they chose to help, which is what makes this project powerful.

This initiative also nurtured:

  • Active citizenship
  • Understanding of local need
  • Social justice awareness
  • Democratic decision-making
  • Respect for human dignity

They learned that courageous advocacy means not just feeling empathy but turning empathy into meaningful action.
