c. Eco Warriors

Our Eco Warriors are passionate pupil leaders from across the school who work together to champion environmental responsibility, sustainable living and care for God’s creation. They play a vital role in helping our whole school community understand how small actions can make a big difference - both now and for future generations.

Eco Warriors meet regularly with a member of staff to discuss new ideas, carry out audits, plan campaigns and celebrate their achievements. Their leadership is visible throughout the year, and they are proud to serve as role models for the entire school.

🌱 What Our Eco Warriors Do

♻️ Promoting recycling, reusing and reducing waste

Eco Warriors lead wholeschool initiatives to reduce waste, including:

  • Helping check that classrooms are recycling correctly
  • Encouraging packedlunch plastic reduction
  • Promoting the use of reusable bottles, containers and resources
  • Leading campaigns such as “Switch Off, Reduce, Recycle”

Their work helps embed sustainable habits across our school community.

🔌 Monitoring energy use in classrooms

Eco Warriors conduct regular “energy checks” to ensure:

  • Lights are off when rooms are empty
  • iPads, laptops and screens are unplugged when not in use
  • Computers, projectors and interactive boards are powered down at the end of the day

This builds pupils’ understanding of carbon footprint and responsible energy consumption.

📢 Leading assemblies and raising awareness

Each term, our Eco Warriors help deliver assemblies on topics such as:

  • Climate change
  • Biodiversity
  • Plastic pollution
  • Environmental justice
  • Stewardship and caring for God’s world

Through these assemblies, pupils develop confidence, leadership and communication skills, while teaching others about important global issues.

💡 Championing positive classroom habits

Eco Warriors carry out spot checks to remind everyone to:

  • Turn off lights and screens
  • Close doors to save heat
  • Use resources carefully
  • Keep outdoor areas tidy

These simple actions help embed responsibility into daily routines.

🌏 Encouraging environmentally friendly choices

Eco Warriors help promote small but meaningful changes, including:

  • Walking, scooting or cycling to school
  • Choosing reusable items over singleuse plastics
  • Bringing litterfree packed lunches
  • Respecting wildlife and natural spaces
  • Pupils enjoy working together to make our school greener and more sustainable.

🎉 Running Eco Challenges and special events

Each week, Eco Warriors introduce a new Eco Warrior Challenge through the newsletter. These challenges often link with Young Climate Warriors and might include:

  • “Turn Off the Lights for an Hour”
  • “Zero Food Waste Week”
  • “PlasticFree Friday”
  • “Nature Spotting Challenge”
  • “Switch Off Sunday”

Families are encouraged to take part, strengthening our homeschool partnership and extending environmental awareness into the wider community.

Eco Warriors also help organise:

  • Litterpicking sessions
  • Planting days
  • Fairtrade events
  • Earth Day and Great Big School Clean activities
  • These experiences make environmental care active, engaging and meaningful.

🌡️ Supporting our partnership with Young Climate Warriors

Working closely with Young Climate Warriors, our pupils learn about real world climate issues in an accessible, age appropriate way.

Through weekly challenges and reflective activities, children explore:

  • How to reduce carbon emissions
  • Choices that impact the environment
  • How collective action creates meaningful change

This empowers pupils to feel hopeful, informed and confident as young advocates for the planet.

✝️ Living Out Our Christian Values

Our Eco Warriors’ work directly reflects our Christian vision and GROWTH values. Their stewardship helps them understand:

  • Gratitude — appreciating and caring for the world God has made
  • Outreach — taking action to help others, both locally and globally
  • Wonder — noticing the beauty and complexity of creation
  • Harmony — working together for the good of the environment

Environmental responsibility is deeply woven into our ethos of Growing Together.

🌟 Why Eco Warriors Matter

Eco Warriors help our school to:

  • Develop environmentally conscious habits
  • Strengthen pupil leadership and ownership
  • Build a culture of responsibility and care
  • Meet national sustainability goals
  • Inspire children to become courageous advocates
  • Support curriculum learning in science, geography, PSHE and RE
  • Create a greener, healthier and more sustainable school

Most importantly, Eco Warriors understand that they are helping to protect God’s creation for future generations - and they take that responsibility seriously.
