e. PE Enrichment and Competitive Sport
PE at Aston Rowant School extends far beyond weekly lessons. We provide a wide range of enrichment opportunities that inspire participation and develop sporting ambition.
Annual Whole-School Sports Enrichment Week
Each year we hold a Sports Enrichment Week, offering pupils a chance to:
- Try new sports
- Work with specialist coaches
- Develop teamwork and resilience
- Celebrate physical achievement
Activities across 2023–2025 include:
- Circus skills
- Sumo suits, zorbing and inflatables
- Street dance and cheerleading
- Karate workshops
- Yoga and mindfulness movement
- Colour Runs
- Nerf team games
- Sports Day celebrations
The Pupil Voice evidence is overwhelmingly positive:
From 2023:
- “I tried things I’d never done before.” (Whole School)
- “Spinning the plate was hard but then I did it!” (Year 1)
- “Skipping is harder than it looks — but fun!” (Year 3)
From 2024:
- “Karate taught me to concentrate really carefully.” (Year 3)
- “Street dance made me feel confident.” (Year 4)
- “We worked together and it made me feel proud.” (Whole School)
From 2025:
- “I balanced for ages! I didn’t know I could do that!” (EYFS)
- “Everyone could join in.” (Whole School)
- “I liked running with my friends and getting covered in paint.” (Year 5, Colour Run)
These enrichment weeks promote:
- Physical activity for all
- Character development (resilience, teamwork, bravery)
- Inclusion and access to sports beyond the National Curriculum
- Joy, confidence and a positive relationship with movement
Inter‑School Competitions
Pupils regularly represent the school in a range of competitions, including:
- Football
- Netball
- Swimming gala
These experiences develop confidence, sportsmanship and pride in representing the school.
Cross‑Country Running
As well as holding our own cross-country running events, we actively encourage pupils to take part in the South Oxfordshire Primary Schools Cross Country Run, promoting:
- Endurance and perseverance
- Personal challenge and goal setting
- A sense of achievement
Tag Rugby
In-house annual tag rugby event across the whole school with children participating in their house teams with mixed abilities and ages.
Dance and Performance
Pupils participate in an annual dance festival as part of our school partnership. This provides opportunities to:
- Perform in front of an audience
- Develop expression and creativity
- Build confidence and collaboration
Our aim is to involve every child, not only elite performers.
