5. Deferred, Delayed & Part-Time Entry

Deferred Entry (Legal Right)

Parents may defer the start of their child’s place until later in the same academic year - BUT not beyond compulsory school age and not beyond the start of the final term

Part-Time Attendance

Parents may request part-time attendance until their child reaches compulsory school age. Schools must accommodate this.

Admission Outside Normal Age Group

Parents may request:

• Admission into Reception for a summer-born child (born 1 April–31 August), delaying their start by a full year
• Admission into a different age group due to individual circumstances

Each request is considered on an individual basis and must be supported by evidence relating to the child’s development and needs.
