3. Behaviour & Wellbeing Support

At our school, we recognise that a child’s behaviour and wellbeing are closely linked to their attendance. When children feel safe, supported, and emotionally ready to learn, they are far more likely to attend regularly and enjoy school life.

We are committed to creating a nurturing, positive environment where all pupils can thrive.

Promoting Positive Behaviour

We support children to behave well by:

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with adults
  • Setting clear expectations and routines
  • Encouraging positive choices and celebrating good behaviour
  • Teaching social skills, emotional regulation, and restorative approaches
  • Providing consistency and structure across the school day

Positive behaviour helps children feel secure, confident, and ready to learn.

Wellbeing at the Heart of Our Approach

Pupil wellbeing is central to everything we do. We provide a range of support to help children feel happy, calm, and ready for school, including:

  • Pastoral support and check-ins Daily or regular emotional check-ins with trusted adults.
  • Nurture groups or small group support Focused support for children who need help with confidence, friendships, or emotional regulation.
  • 1:1 wellbeing support Tailored sessions for children experiencing anxiety, low mood, or challenges outside school.
  • Adjustments to the school day Visual timetables, quiet spaces, or personalised routines where needed.
  • Support for transitions Extra help for children finding mornings, new classes, or changes in routine difficult.

Behaviour, Wellbeing and Attendance

We understand that behaviour or emotional difficulties can sometimes affect a child’s willingness or ability to attend school. When this happens, we work closely with families to understand the root causes and put support in place.

This may include:

  • Developing personalised attendance or behaviour plans
  • Offering phased reintegration for pupils who need it
  • Liaising with external agencies for specialist advice
  • Working with parents to establish consistent routines at home and school

Our aim is always to remove barriers so children feel safe, confident, and ready to attend.

Working with External Services

Where appropriate, we collaborate with:

  • Play Therapist
  • Educational Psychologists
  • Mental health and wellbeing services (e.g., CAMHS, MHST)
  • Behaviour support teams
  • Family support and Early Help workers

These partnerships help ensure children receive the most effective support at the right time.
