British Values Day 2026 - Fundamental Values
Intent
Our aim for British Values Day 2026 was to deepen pupils’ lived understanding of the four fundamental British values — democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance. We intended to give all pupils, including EYFS and SEND, meaningful opportunities to experience these values through practical, creative and social activities.
Implementation
- Whole-school assembly exploring Respect and Tolerance through story and discussion
- Outdoor Democracy in Action games involving movement-based voting
- Four carousel activities:
- Rule of Law: fair-play game design
- Individual Liberty: creative choice studio
- Democracy: stories, debate and group problem-solving
- Mutual Respect: collaborative construction challenge
- Mixed-age house teams encouraged leadership, inclusion and responsibility
- Staff consistently modelled British Values vocabulary throughout the day
Impact
Pupils articulated each British value in age-appropriate language and demonstrated fairness, cooperation and empathy during activities. Older pupils supported younger peers, showing leadership and care. Photographs, pupil voice and completed tasks showed clear evidence of strengthened Personal Development, especially in respect, teamwork and celebrating difference.
