6. Online Safety
At Aston Rowant School, digital safeguarding is a core component of our curriculum and wider safeguarding practice. Alongside our Kapow computing and PSHE provision, we also take part in national initiatives such as Safer Internet Day each year. This year’s (2026) theme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled pupils to explore how emerging technologies influence online behaviour, safety, and digital decision-making.
Our approach reflects the strengthened expectations in KCSIE 2025, including ensuring that pupils are explicitly taught about online risks such as misinformation, disinformation and conspiracy theories, which have been added to the statutory list of online content risks within the updated “Four Cs” framework. These topics are woven through our Kapow online safety lessons, equipping children with the critical thinking skills needed to navigate digital content safely and responsibly.
To maintain high technical standards of digital protection, the school ensures that our filtering and monitoring systems align with the latest DfE recommendations, including the use of the “Plan technology for your school” tool, which supports schools in evaluating their filtering and monitoring effectiveness and compliance.
We also follow the updated DfE guidance on the safe and appropriate use of generative AI in education, ensuring that staff and pupils understand both the opportunities and the potential risks associated with AI technologies. Through this combined approach—robust safeguarding systems, high-quality Kapow curriculum teaching, and active engagement in national online safety events—we ensure that pupils develop the knowledge, confidence and resilience to use technology safely and responsibly in an ever-changing digital world.
