i. Reading Champions
Our Reading Champions are passionate readers from across Key Stage 2 who help promote a love of books and storytelling throughout the school. They are chosen for their enthusiasm, commitment, and the joy they bring to reading.
What Reading Champions Do
- Recommend books to children across all age groups
- Run lunchtime or breaktime reading clubs, sharing favourite stories
- Curate themed book baskets (e.g., adventure, animals, kindness, poetry)
- Support younger readers by listening to them read or helping them choose books
- Create library or corridor displays to match school events and celebrations
- Promote reading challenges, such as “Read Around the World” or “Book Bingo”
- Help organise World Book Day, author visits and storytelling sessions
Why This Role Matters
Reading Champions help build a culture of reading for pleasure - a key driver of achievement across the curriculum. They inspire younger pupils, support teachers, and help create a vibrant, book-loving school community.
