National Storytelling Week

January 30th - February 6th is National Storytelling Week. This fits in perfectly with our current whole school topic of ‘Storytellers’. As well as some planned activities within your classes, we will be holding our first Storytelling Competition!

  1. Choose a favourite story.

This may be a short story you love (like The Gruffalo, Oi Dog or Owl Babies) or a traditional fairy tale (like Goldilocks and the Three Bears or Hansel and Gretel). It may be that you want to read the opening chapter of your favourite book or a chapter you think is particularly exciting. You might even like to read a story you have written yourself!

  1. Read that story then read it again. Know it inside out and back to front.
  2. Decide how you would like to retell it.

Will you video yourself read from the pages? Will you retell it without the book? Perhaps you could create your own Audio Book. Do you want to be behind the scenes and use puppets or teddies/toys to act the story out? The choice is yours!

  1. Practise telling your story.

Think about the expression you could use. Can you use different voices for characters or when a scene changes mood? Would action or movement make it more exciting to listen to? Will you wear anything special? Be creative and most importantly - HAVE FUN WITH IT!

  1. Record yourself.
  2. Email a copy of your video (or audio recording) to your class email by Wednesday 10th February.
  3. We will announce a winner for each class in the school newsletter that week and on the school website.

Good Luck!
