Week beginning 01.06,20

Here are the home learning tasks for this week. We are looking at the story "The colour monster". Find the video link here...

Please complete one or all of the following tasks...

Task1:

Colour in your monster and write a sentence about how you are feeling this week. You might want to start your sentence with "I am feeling..." You could make your sentence longer by adding "because"

extension: You could write speech bubbles for all the colour monsters. What might they say?

Task 2:

Make your own colour monster book by painting a blob and adding arms, legs and eyes. Write a short sentence to go with each monster.

extra challenges:

  • Retell the story from the point of view of the Colour Monster. Could you write his diary entry?
  • Write a prequel to this story. Where did the Colour Monster come from?
  • Write a sequel. What adventures might the Colour Monster have next?
  • Write a separate story about an angry Colour Monster or a sad one.

Week 4:

Reading: This week continue using reading eggs to practice at your own level. Remember books are available to collect from school if you should need.

If you have phonic cards from school practice them everyday until you know all your cards. Have a go at writing the sounds when your adult says them without looking.

This week’s challenge: Make sure you can read all your tricky words for your phase –see week 2 resources

Handwriting: This week practice the zig zag monsters letters (see sheet from week 2). Make sure you start your letters from the top. Try to write them on a line and make them all the same size. Why not send in a photo of your work?

Extra Challenge: Have a go at the joins for these letters

Writing: week 4: Remember to keep up your plant diaries. This week we will begin a non-fiction dictionary about minibeasts. You may do this electronically by Powerpoint or handwritten but it should be your child’s own work..

If you have an alphabet book or child friendly dictionary eg the a-z of minibeasts, animals, countries etc then read it with your child and talk about alphabetical order. Sing the alphabet song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75p-N9YKqNo

Using any non-fiction book talk about what a ‘caption’ is. (A factual sentence) Look for minibeasts under rocks and logs when you are out and about. If possible take a photo of them and in the moment come up with a verbal caption about it. For example “A woodlouse has a hard body” If your child can then count how many words was in their sentence.

Once they can do this verbally then encourage them to make a book, presentation etc about the minibeasts they have found.

Star challenge: Some children may be able to put their pictures and sentences into alphabetical order.

See topic week 4 task and tricky word sheet for spellings you may need.
