We have an Eco School team which comprises of two representatives elected from each class in Years 1 – 6. The team meets every 3 weeks to discuss current environmental issues and to come up with ideas to address our action plan for the upcoming year.
We are very passionate about the world around us. As a school with such wonderful surroundings, we are inspired everyday to look after our school environment and to celebrate it by encouraging others to look after the world we live in. We are responsible for embedding eco awareness in our whole school community. We have our own roles and responsibilities for ensuring our school is eco friendly. Our Eco team worked so hard last year to gain the Green Flag With Merit status for Aston Rowant School!
The Green Flag Award means that our school is addressing the following ten elements, with a particular focus on those highlighted in bold:

Every new project undertaken at school takes environmental consequences into consideration as we try to minimize the impact on our environment.
Last academic year we focused our efforts on fundraising as a team to purchase a hot bin composter, as the amount of food waste we were generating each week was a real concern.
We have also been busy organising regular outdoor learning, Christmas jumper swaps to recycle instead of waste and our hugely successful Go Green Day! Our efforts meant we achieved a Green Flag Award with Merit. This is what the team at the Eco Schools sent us:
